Ryan Kerr scored the overtime winner on a bizarre play 53 seconds into overtime as the last place Abitibi Eskimos defeated the first place North Bay Jr. Trappers 4-3 at the Jus Jordan arena on Saturday night.

On a scrum at the side of the net Ryan Tront tipped the puck through Dustin Hummel’s legs while he was against the post and the Kerr had to just sweep the puck into the wide open net for the game winner.

Hummel thought he had the puck covered for a whistle but the puck had popped through his legs and through the crease.

Beau Orser scored twice for the Trappers, including what appeared to be a game winner. Cole Klippenstein had the other goal for the Jr. Trappers to open the scoring early in the first period.

Aaron Kerr scored the tying goal with less than 5 minutes left to play in regulation for the Eskis to force an extra session.

Nick Fountain and Ben Miller had the other goals for the Eskis.

Prior to tonight’s contest, the Trappers had not lost all season in regulation to the Eskimos in their first 6 meetings.

The point gives the Trappers a 5 point lead on the 2nd place Soo Thunderbirds in the NOJHL standings.

The Trappers are back home on Sunday night as they host the visiting Abitibi Eskimos. Game time is 7:00 pm on Sunday evening.
